Stolen jet engine 'tip of the iceberg'

(above: The missing jet fighter engine is the powerplant of one of the four F-5E Tiger II fighters in the Malaysian air force.)

By Alang Bendahara

PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA - The armed forces has launched a full audit of its assets following the loss of a jet fighter engine from the Royal Malaysian Air Force air base in Sungai Besi here.
Armed forces chief Gen Tan Sri Azizan Ariffin said the stolen jet engine might just be the "tip of the iceberg", as initial investigations showed that other equipment might have gone missing from as far back as 2007.

"We have tightened all our procedures, especially at the logistics department, and also introduced new security procedures to prevent attempts to steal and sell sensitive military equipment," he told the New Straits Times after attending the national-level Maal Hijrah celebration at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre yesterday.

It is learnt that the armed forces had already taken disciplinary action against those responsible for the missing jet engine.

Sources said the engine, which was still operational, was transported in a military container from the air force's Butterworth base to the Sungai Besi base for a routine maintenance service last year.

The jet engine was stored at the Sungai Besi warehouse while its service and maintenance record was kept in a safe in an office on the base.

Air force officers found the jet engine missing in January when they sent a private contractor to Subang to service the engine.

They also discovered that the service and maintenance record was missing.

Both the air force and police were investigating the possibility that the engine was sold on the black market to either illegal arms traders or countries still flying the F-5E Tiger II and RF-5E Tigereye.

The stolen engine is the powerplant for one of the four F-5E Tiger II fighters and two RF-5E Tigereye reconnaissance jets still in active duty at the air force's 12th Squadron (Scorpion) at the Butterworth air base.

Runtuh @ Collapsed

Runtuh@collapsed
  1. RUNTUH! It is common and synonym term for Malaysian."stadium runtuh, masjid runtuh, sekolah runtuh, stesen bas runtuh, tanah runtuh & durian runtuh"
  2. Even Malaysia is free from earthquake or typhoon, something or somewhere will be collapsed.
  3. Is it due to insufficient maintenance? or due to negligence during design/construction stage?
  4. What happen if we get some minor earthquake? The damage will be catastrophic. Nauzubillah.

Ministry restricts sale of imported dried fruits due to high lead content

THE STAR By LESTER KONG

KUALA LUMPUR: The sale of 18 types of dried plum and prune from China, Taiwan and other Asian countries has been restricted by the Health Ministry after high degrees of lead was detected.

The foodstuff - known as asam or jeruk in Malay and kiam sui tee (salty, sour and sweet) in Hokkien which are immensely popular as tidbits among Malaysians - has been put on Level 5 alert by the ministry’s Food Safety and Quality Division under its Food Information System of Malaysia.

This means that the division would hold the products for testing and would only release them for sale if they pass the test.

The highest alert level of 6 involves an immediate rejection of a product.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said for the moment, dried fruit products by other manufacturers and distributors would be permitted to be sold locally.

“If these 18 products are found in the local market, they will be seized and sampled for lead analysis,” he told reporters after launching the ministry’s management conference here yesterday.

Lead, in cumulative amounts over time, causes nervous system disorders and distorts brain development, especially in children.

Liow said the monitoring began following a US Food and Drug Administration report on Oct 1 that alerted consumers over the dried fruit sold by the 15 manufacturers due to lead contamination.

“If a product by a manufacturer or distributor is found to contain more than the permitted two parts per million (ppm), legal action will be taken under the Food Regulations 1985,” Liow said.

The 18 products apparently had lead levels of up to 30 ppm.

Asked if any of the 18 products were being sold locally, the minister said the division was checking on this.

Meanwhile, Liow announced that former International Trade and Industry Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Ooi Say Chuan had been appointed Malaysian Health Tourism Council chief executive officer.

He said the council, to be launched in December by the Prime Minister, would focus on consolidating private and Government efforts in promoting Malaysia as a health tourism destination.

Minyak hitam enjin kereta

(1) Crocs banned in Swedish hospital for generating a "cloud of lightning"
A Swedish hospital has banned Crocs-brand plastic clogs because they build up static charges that zetz the delicate medical instruments: Blekinge hospital in southern Sweden suspects the slip-on shoes, made by US firm Crocs Inc, are to blame for at least three incidents in which respirators and other machines malfunctioned. The mishaps caused no injuries. Hospital spokesman Bjorn Lofqvist said staff wearing the clogs could turn into "a cloud of lighting" because of the static electricity. Source: http://www.boingboing.net/2007/04/19/crocs_banned_in_swed.html

Crocs Can Pose a Danger on Escalators. However it's not just Crocs that pose a danger -- any soft, pliable shoe, even flip-flops, can be dangerous on an escalator.

Pemasangan Jeriji Keselamatan di Rumah

Sumber: http://www.bombapahang.gov.my

   (2) Pemasangan jeriji tingkap kecemasan jenis bermangga /kunci

Walaupun mengetahui risiko penggunaanya.

Faktor keselamatan (safety and security) jeriji tingkap kecemasan perlu diambil kira supaya ada keseimbangan untuk di pasang dijenis-jenis projek perumahan seperti berikut:

   - Rumah kediaman pekerja (asrama)

   - Rumah teres (konkrik) 1,2 dan 3 tingkat.

   - Rumah kelompok (cluster) 4 unit.

   - Rumah pangsa kos rendah/sederhana.

    (2) System pengunciannya perlu mempunyai cirri-ciri berikut:

Salah satu unsur terpenting ketika membuka jeriji tingkap kecemasan adalan sistem penguncian.

Pemasangan jeriji tingkap kecemasan sesuai ditempatkan dilokasi seperti berikut:

        - Bilik tidur.

        - Ruang tamu.

My family had been visiting the Kemaman Mini Zoo and recreational park during last weekend. Congratulations to the state government who has successfully equipped this area with another public “entertainment” facility. The simplified map as shown below. However, Malaysian still Malaysian… despite the very nice facility we still simply throwing the rubbish everywhere. Yes we are paying RM 5 per entry, but still the cleanliness is everybody responsibility. Malaysians! Wake-up.

AIR FRANCE Flight 447

The French agency investigating the disaster said airspeed instruments on the plane had not been replaced as the maker had recommended, but cautioned that it was too early to draw conclusions about what role that may have played in the crash.
The agency, BEA, said the plane received inconsistent airspeed readings from different instruments as it struggled in a massive thunderstorm.
Search crews have recovered 24 bodies (@09 June ) so far and found the vertical stabilizer from the tail section of the A330-200 plane, which could help narrow the hunt for the black boxes to determine why the jet crashed.

The data and voice recorders are located in the fuselage near the tail section of the jet.
Investigators are considering the possibility that the plane's external speed monitors - called Pitot tubes - that may have iced over and gave dangerously false readings to cockpit computers in a thunderstorm.

According to the Airbus Web site, total orders for the A330 twin-engine passenger planes so far stood at 956, of which 669 have been delivered.

Some 614 jets are operating worldwide - 269 of the larger A330-300 series and 345 of the shorter fuselage A330-200 jets, it said. - AP

Toilet king of Malaysia calls it a day

Unfinished business: Lau is giving up the seat as the chairman of Quality Restroom Association Malaysia (QRAM) as he became the Deputy Transport Minister last month.

By FOONG PEK YEE (thestar.com.my)

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s “toilet king” is stepping down next month after a five-year reign.
Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew, who earned the nickname for his tireless effort in fighting for clean public toilets in the country, said: “It is an unfinished business but I have to move on.”
The 67-year-old accountant-turned-politician was inducted into the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s clean toilet campaign when he was the deputy minister in 2004.
His mission came to an end when he was appointed Deputy Transport Minister last month.
Lau is best remembered for setting up the first toilet association in Malaysia — Quality Restroom Assocation Malaysia (QRAM) — of which he has been chairman since its inception in 2005.
The Sibu MP said he is not seeking re-election at the QRAM annual general meeting to be held next month.
He said it is time for the Government to wield the stick on the country’s 148 local authorities so that they were serious in making sure that the 250,000 public toilets within their jurisdictions are clean.

“Only 60 local authorities took part in a star-rating programme for public toilets last year,” he lamented.

Bangkok beats London in carbon pollution

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Residents of the Thai capital produce as much carbon pollution as New Yorkers and more than Londoners, a U.N.-backed study released on Thursday shows.
The report, "Bangkok: Assessment Report on Climate Change 2009", underscores the city's carbon-intensive habits but also highlights the threat to Bangkok from rising seas caused by global warming.
A man walks past cars during rush-hour traffic in Bangkok in this May 4, 2007 file photo. Residents of the Thai capital produce as much carbon pollution as New Yorkers and more than Londoners, a U.N.-backed study released on Thursday shows. (REUTERS/Adrees Latif/Files)

"In per-capita terms, Bangkok was responsible for producing 7.1 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per annum in 2007," said the report by the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority and the Bangkok-based Green Leaf Foundation, with support from the United Nations Environment Programme.

That was the same level of emissions produced by New Yorkers in 2007. Londoners produced 5.9 tonnes per capita.

Transport and electricity generation were the main sources of greenhouse gases in Bangkok, the report said.
The paper based its calculations on the city's official population of six million but up to twice that number are believed to live in the city, many of them seasonal workers from the countryside.

Low-lying Bangkok is near the mouth of the Chao Phraya River and is already prone to flooding. In future, more days above 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) were expected, along with a jump in cases of malaria and other diseases, the report said.
The maximum forecast temperature in Bangkok on Wednesday is 38 deg C, the Thai Meteorological Department said.
"The impacts of greenhouse gas emissions and the resulting climate change on Bangkok are likely to be quite severe," said the report.
It said just over half the city would be affected by floods if the mean sea level were to rise by 50 centimetres (20 inches), and 72 per cent of the city would be affected if the mean sea level were to rise by one metre.
Land subsidence caused by over-pumping of ground water was already a major problem, along with contamination of water supplies, and both were expected to get worse as the city's population grows, it added.
The city's administration has launched a campaign to cut emissions by 15 percent by 2012 by expanding mass transit, promote renewable energy, expand parklands and improve energy efficiency.

AMERIKA SYARIKAT:Wanita dilanggar bas dapat ganti rugi AS$27.5j
NEW YORK 17 April - Seorang wanita yang kehilangan kaki kirinya selepas dilanggar oleh sebuah bas syarikat New York City hari ini menerima ganti rugi berjumlah AS$27.5 juta (RM99.2 juta).
Mahkamah memerintahkan supaya syarikat bas berkenaan membayar ganti rugi itu kepada pekerja Janitorial, Gloria Aguilar, 45, selepas dia dilanggar sebuah bas ketika menyeberang jalan di Manhattan pada November 2005.
Peguam wanita itu, Ben Rubinowitz berkata, doktor telah memotong kaki wanita berkenaan sehingga paras lutut.
Katanya, peguam syarikat New York City mempertikaikan tindakan wanita berkenaan berada di luar laluan melintas sehingga terperosok di bawah sisi bas berkenaan.
Jurucakap New York City berkata, syarikat berkenaan akan mengemukakan rayuan berhubung keputusan itu. - AP

6 die, 5 injured in express bus crash

RAWANG: Five passengers and the driver of a double-decker express bus died and five injured after the bus skidded, hit the divider and toppled at Km443 of the North-South Expressway near Rawang Monday morning.

Police said the accident occurred at about 5.30am after the double-decker bus, carrying 34 passengers from Changlun, Kedah, went out of control.

The wreckage which took authorities about four hours to clear caused a massive crawl heading south from Bukit Beruntung toll plaza in the morning.

The AB Express bus, carrying about 34 passengers, was travelling to Kuala Lumpur from Alor Setar when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle at 5am.

The out-of-control bus skidded against the divider railings causing about 64 metres of the metal railings to break off and spear into the lower deck of the bus before the bus came to a stop beside the road on its side.

The who died at the scene are, Md Zaher Mohamad , 33, C. Magenthiran, 26, Mohamad Fauzi Awang, 57, Muhammad Ismail, 27, Mohd Yusril Zakaria, 27, and driver Zulkhibri Md Saad, 35, but who was resting at the time of the accident.

Magenthiran was the only one not from the lower deck. He was thrown out of the bus. Zulkhibri was decapitated by the metal railings.

Federal traffic police chief Senior Asst Comm II Datuk Abd Aziz Yusof said the co driver, who had been driving at the time of the incident, and two women, one of them seven months pregnant, have been warded at Hospital Sungai Buloh. Two others, who suffered light injuries, went home after outpatient treatment.

“The others were taken to the Gombak police headquarters to have their statements recorded,” he said.

SAC Abd Aziz said initial investigations revealed that the driver, Fauzi Mohammad, 33, had received eight summons previously for speeding while his co-driver, Zulkhibri, had six summons and five arrest warrants under his name for the same offence.

“We are investigating the case as reckless driving leading to death under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act,” he said.

He confirmed this was the worst road accident in the country so far this year.

Sulinda Md Yassin, 31, who is seven months pregnant said she was sleeping on the upper deck of the bus during the incident.

“I heard a loud crash and the entire bus shook violently.

“I was able to get out through the emergency exit with some help from the other passengers,” she said adding she was thankful she survived.

“I had wanted to sit at the lower deck but was force to move up as there was no empty seats left,” she said, when met at the hospital.

zebra crossing with traffic light needed

  • In my opinion, zebra crossing is needed in front of Dataran Pahlawan Mall.
  • It is important to ensure the safety of all visitor (domestic or international).
  • Some drivers are speeding thus creating unsafe condition for those who want to cross this road. E.g. going to Mahkota Parade or vice versa.
  • Recommend to "PBT" for further action.

  • Apa yang boleh kita lakukan;

[A] Berdoalah sebelum memulakan perjalanan... InsyaAllah selamat.

[B] Berhati-hati.

Kebersihan Pantai#2 - Pantai Paka Terengganu

Oil and Gas: moving heavy equipment

  1. Moving something big are normal activities in oil and gas industry.
  1. Fail to plan is planned for fail, thus failure is not an option.
  2. Companies will spend million of ringgit... to ensure the material will be delivered on time without any defect.
  3. Safety is the highest priority. Any incident will cause project delay.
  4. Project delayed will cause opportunity loss.
  5. There is a story about foreign engineer who committed suicide during constructing a plant in Malaysia due to late delivery of process equipment.

Rokok oh rokok...

  1. Saya juga pernah merasa rokok. Namun alhamdulillah tidak melekat.
  2. Ketika pulang dari solat jumaat tengahhari tadi, terdapat satu kotak rokok kosong di buang berdekatan kereta saya.
At least guna duit sendiri.
  9. Berhenti lah merokok....
  10. Simpan lah duit
  11. Laburkan lah untuk kemudahan dunia dan akhirat.

Road Accident Statistic in Malaysia

  1. Since past 10 years, we had successfully killed 60,575 Malaysian at the road.
